The Suffering of a Christian

"Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator." I Peter 4:19

Many people are under the illusion that when God saves a sinner that all his troubles are over. Let me first say that his main trouble is over and that trouble was sin that seperated him from God. Many are the afflictions of the people of God. When we stand for the truth it is unpopular. The truth has always been hated by his world. Though none of us want suffering, we can be assured that we will experience it. We are told in verse 15 not to suffer because of sin in our lives, but only for the cause of Christ.

Our text verse says that those who suffer according to the will of God. God brings us to seasons of suffering that will help us grown in grace and faith. We also see that we must trust and commit the keeping of our souls to our heavenly Father. We must be very careful not to get bitter in our trials or stray from God. We should keep our eyes on Jesus Christ and quietly keep doing right and serve God in our afflictions. We can do all this because God is a faithful Creator. Great is thy faithfulness unto men. He is faithful to deliver us out of trials of our faith. I believe that all the redeemed of the Lord will go through the trials of fire to burn off things we don’t need.

Amen!
